Lane Change Assistance TM

Detection Zone

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to change lanes? You sensed there were cars present,  but couldn't see them.  It looked clear, but just when you started to change lanes. . . a horn sounding let you know that you just made an error.

In some cases, the horn honking is followed by a sigh of relief, in some cases, by some degree of road rage.  Changing lanes can be more than a source of accidents.  It can be a source of uncomfortable experiences that can ruin a pleasant journey.

Automakers use Valeo Raytheon Lane Change Assistance (tm) sensors to alert you that a vehicle is in the adjacent lane, The system that can be included in your next vehicle, acts like a personal driving assistant, always looking at the adjacent lanes to your side and behind you.

Lane Change From Slow Lane

Have you ever been in a situation where one vehicle traveling in a group- attempts to avoid being slowed by a vehicle in their lane and decides to change lanes?

This scenario is a source of anxiety for the driver being cut off- who may, also be trapped by traffic in the adjacent lane.  The driver making the decision to change lanes, may not be aware that the car they are about to cut-off is as near as it is.

Valeo Raytheon Lane Change Assistant would have warned the driver that a vehicle is in the change path, perhaps giving that driver the information that would have allowed them to make a different decision.

Exit Cut-Off

Have you ever been in the left-hand lane, signaling for an exit, when suddenly, a vehicle accelerates from behind you, passes you and takes the exit right in front of your car?  I think we all have, at one time or another.

With increasing roadway congestion, situations like this are becoming more common.  No system can eliminate aggressive driving behavior by others, but in this scenario, VRS technology could have alerted you to a rapidly approaching vehicle.  Depending on the speed before the exit, even one tenth of a second alert may have made a difference in your awareness.

Valeo Raytheon Lane Change Assistant could have warned you  that a vehicle is approaching, then passing and could have alerted you to the situation with enough time to apply your brakes, helping to avoid an uncomfortable situation.

Rear Zone Protection

The most common accident between two vehicles is the rear-end collision.  In most cases, the crash is caused by the approaching driver not being aware of the difference in speed.  While no system allows you to control the other vehicle, systems can be applied to your next vehicle that will raise the approaching driver's awareness level.

System can sense a vehicle approaching your car from the rear at a high rate of speed.  Because it is radar technology, the system can take different approaches to increasing levels of concern.

If the closing rate of speed is high, the system can illuminate a brake style light to draw attention to your vehicle.  As the vehicle comes closer, or if you have applied your brakes, the system can increase the brightness of your brake-lights and even pulse them, and alert you with a warning tone.   If the system senses that warnings have not worked, and that a crash is unavoidable, the system, integrated with your safety systems can initiate adjustable headrests, pretension seatbelts and in other ways prepare the vehicle to survive a collision.

Parking Lot Assistance

Can you remember the last time you were parked in a parking lot between two large vehicles on a busy day?  Backing out of the parking position is uncomfortable, because you just don't know if someone is driving in the lane, and perhaps not aware of you.  Or perhaps another car is also backing out of the other side.

Reversing can be both stressful and can be the source of accidents.  Valeo Raytheon Lane Change Assistant installed in your next vehicle will make driving more pleasurable.  It can sense that you are in reverse gear, and if a vehicle is present in the lane, initiate a warning light and or a tone, to further alert other drivers that you are entering the lane.  This feature augments your standard back-up sensors.
